Types of Dental Insurance and Dental Plans

Discount Dental Plans

You will see me refer to both dental plans and dental insurance.

Dental insurance is an actual insurance product with an insurance carrier. The dental plan is usually a discount plan.

Let me tell you right up front that I have a discount plan for my family. It is cheap, my dentist accepts it and it saves me a lot of money each year.

However, the key is finding a dentist in your area you like who will accept the plan.

Dental PPO Insurance Plans

Everybody calls for a PPO dental plan. Their dentist told them that this is the only plan he or she will accept.

There are very few PPO dental plans you can buy outside of a group. However, we do have a full PPO dental plan that you can buy as an individual or family and do not have to be part of a group.

Hybrid PPO Dental Insurance Plans

These are pretty good plans. They have a PPO network and if your dentist is in the network, you get the discounted rate. In addition, they pay fixed amounts for various dental procedures regardless of whether you are in or out of a network. So, in theory, you can go to any dentist you want.

Dental DHMO
