Whether you are aware of it or not, their is a relationship between your dental health and glycemic control. In other words, if you are a diabetic, there are additional reasons to make sure you see a dentist.

You will also hear these same sentiments echoed by cardiologists to their heart patients.

You ability to heal and deal with infections is compromised. You need to take care of your teeth. We have a number of inexpensive dental plans to help you to do so.

Types of Dental Insurance and Dental Plans

We have a number of different dental plans and a special web site dedicated to this topic where you can see the plans, look up dentists and get quotes. But first, let me give you a brief overview.

Discount Dental Plans

You will see me refer to both dental plans and dental insurance.

Dental insurance is an actual insurance product with an insurance carrier. The dental plan is usually a discount plan.

Let me tell you right up front that I have a discount plan for my family. It is cheap, my dentist accepts it and it saves me a lot of money each year.

However, the trick is finding a dentist in your area you like who will accept the plan.

Dental PPO Insurance Plans

OK, everybody calls for a PPO dental plan. Their dentist told them that is he or she will accept.

Guess what? There are very few PPO dental plans you can buy outside of a group and they are very expensive. Generally, not a good idea. Find a new dentist who does not need you to pay for their ski lodge.

Hybrid PPO Dental Insurance Plans

These are pretty good plans. They have a PPO network and if your dentist is in the network, you get the discounted rate. In addition, they pay fixed amounts for various dental procedures regardless of whether you are in or out of a network. So, in theory, you can go to any dentist you want.

Dental DHMO

If you live in Florida or Texas, I have a real nice, low cost Dental HMO (DHMO). They cover most routine treatment for a very small co pay and their discounts for major work are very significant.
